Stargate sg1 technology?

in the stargate episodes do they ever begin to upgrade their technology or colonize, not just explore. im starting season 2 and am beginning to bore at the basic exploration and problematic issues they face. almost like filler episodes. please no spoilers jst a simple yes or no. if yes how far into the episodes
