My landlord filed eviction papers but stated he would not proceed if I vacated by today....?

I vacated, gave them the keys, have written notice that they would cease the proceedings upon receipt of the keys and have a voicemail confirming they have been received and that the court would be notified to drop the case. How do I get proof that the case is dropped? Should I still "answer" the Summons? Also, nothing has been mentioned as far as payment for the past due rent (reason for eviction), do you think they will simply bill me or file a seperate small claims case for the money?
